Contemporary Visual Artist

My art education began many years ago when art history including classical art was a vital part of the curriculum, this knowledge and inspiration has continued on and still excites me even now, having completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art at Winchester School of Art in 2015.  I am now after 20 years of pursuing a totally unrelated profession happy to be finally making my life as a contemporary artist. As a single mum this journey has been protracted, with the emphasis always being on providing for us, my son is now grown up and I have the freedom to focus totally on my art.

I am a contemporary visual artist specialising in film, photography, paint and performance, focusing on intimate spaces with a ritualistic approach to the movements and evidence a person leaves behind environmentally (in a broad sense of the word), encountered both externally and internally.

I work with the concept that intimate space is not always a personal place, but areas of personal involvement places that we form emotional attachment to, unconsidered we leave part of ourselves for others to encounter. Often a performative experience, movements that highlight daily actions, some ritualistic, some mundane.

Cultural and ethical issues alongside the contemporary and heritage are all areas of art I feel conversant with. My work is a journey about exploring ways in which I can define the concept of identity and the self in a very individual and personal way. The exploration of who I am has been set in my home surroundings, that have now over time extended further afield. My life as mother, artist, and provider are factors that bear positive influence and drive in my working practice.
